ILM Level 3 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring

The ILM Level 3 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring is a programme that combines the ILM Level 3 Coaching qualifications and the ILM Level 3 Mentoring qualifications.

It is a much ‘bigger’ programme that is aimed at individuals who intend to be significantly involved in coaching and mentoring within an organisation or as an independent Coach-Mentor.  This programme is for those people that are serious about developing their competence and practice within the coaching and mentoring communities and profession as a whole.

The ILM Level 3 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring is an experiential programme where you will learn the practical skills of coaching and mentoring that will make a real difference.

It will also support you in developing effective reflective practice and a fuller understanding of the professional supervision process.  This programme will support you to gain the professional recognition that you deserve to advance your career either as an internal or external Coach-Mentor.

The programme is made up of six mandatory units.

  1. Unit 1 – Understanding good practice in workplace coaching – Covers the role of coaching, basic coaching processes and the abilities and qualities individuals need to be a good coach.
  2. Unit 2 – Reflecting on workplace coaching skills – Provides participants with the tools to analyse and improve their own performance as a coach.
  3. Unit 3 – Undertaking an extended period of coaching in the workplace – Enables participants to plan and carry out at least 36 hours of coaching for a deeper level of skills and experience with supervision and support.
  4. Unit 4 – Understanding good practice in workplace mentoring – Covers what mentors do and how they do it.
  5. Unit 5 – Reflecting on workplace mentoring skills – Provides participants with the tools to analyse and improve their own performance as a mentor.
  6. Unit 6 – Undertaking an extended period of mentoring in the workplace – Enables participants to plan and carry out at least 36 hours of mentoring for a deeper level of skills and experience with supervision and support.

This Level 3 programme is equivalent to study at A Level standard.  It will provide you with 26 credits.

What is the format and how long will it take?

The programme requires 54 hours of Guided Learning Time.  Completion is typically over a six to eight month timeframe.  There is one route of study available:

  • Classroom Based Programme including supported Distance Learning Activities – A blended learning approach including 3 Classroom Days, distance learning activities, one-to-one coaching, observed coaching, assessment teleseminar.  All supported by your own dedicated Coach-Mentor with extended Supervision.

Curently we only deliver these programmes on an in-house basis, tailored to meet specific organisational needs and context.  There are plans to develop a distance learning approach to this programme of study.
